TO CELEBRATE WEEKEND OF EGG-CELLENT ADVENTURES AND JELLY BEAN JAM
A spring family favorite gets a tasty new twist when the Da Vinci Science Center holds its 2009 Weekend of Egg-Cellent Adventures and Jelly Bean Jam, presented by Just Born, April 10-11, and 13.
The popular Egg Drop Challenge, hands-on egg-tivities, and appearances by the Just Born Peepster vehicle will be complemented with the creation of jelly bean murals, a jelly bean taste-testing contest, a jelly bean trivia contest, and a cookie decorating activity using, of course, jelly beans, presented by Victoria's Homemade Shoppe.
The Jelly Bean Jam also will include Hail to the Bean, a tribute to President Ronald Reagan's famous love of jelly beans, including those made by the company known today as Just Born. The exhibit includes a personal note from President Reagan, photos, and memorabilia.
All paid visitors for the Weekend of Egg-Cellent Adventures will receive a Just Born candy surprise while supplies last. Activities will take place Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The Da Vinci Science Center will be open for public visits on Sunday, April 12, from 12-5 p.m.
The Egg Drop Challenge, sponsored by Just Born and Weis/Kings Markets, encourages visitors to build devices - such as parachutes and cushions - to keep an egg from breaking when dropped from a second-story balcony onto a concrete floor. The only requirement, besides the egg, is that the visitor must use as least one Just Born Marshmallow Peep in his or her contraption. In 2008, 52 percent of visitor eggs landed without harm.
Additional egg-tivities will include Match the Hatch, in which visitors will attempt to match eggs to the animals that emerge from them; a Humpty Dumpty Egg Drop that challenges visitors to drop an egg into a cup of water without breaking it; the creation of Egg Flinkers, a device that neither floats nor sinks; and egg crafting demonstrations on April 13 from 1-3 p.m.
