CENTER'S TEACHER LEADER INSTITUTE TO HONOR 2009 GRADUATES

The Da Vinci Teacher Leader Institute - the Da Vinci Science Center's signature professional development program - will honor eleven new graduates Saturday during the institute's annual spring colloquium.

The 2009 graduates will have completed the institute's three-year training course, which increases elementary teachers' science knowledge, leadership skills, and ability to teach with the inquiry method. The 2009 graduates, who will be recognized permanently as Da Vinci Fellows, are:

Amy Asbath, Mosser Elementary School, Allentown.
Melanie Fehlinger, Raub Middle School, Allentown.
Nancy Feichtel, Holy Spirit School, Diocese of Allentown.
Kimberly Graham, Jackson Elementary School, Allentown.
Jennifer Hoch, Jefferson Elementary School, Allentown.
Robin Hohe, Jefferson Elementary School, Allentown.
Mark McDermott, Jefferson Elementary School, Allentown.
John Monahan, Allentown School District.
David Moyer, Harrison-Morton Middle School, Allentown.
Joan Preston, Harrison-Morton Middle School, Allentown.
Christine Young, Jefferson Elementary School, Allentown.

The spring colloquium, the conclusion of the institute's program year, will feature instructional sessions relating to life sciences. Each participant also will receive a terrarium for their classroom and explore the connections between life science and literacy.

Teachers interested in joining the Da Vinci Teacher Leader Institute for the 2009-2010 school year can contact Tricia Maskiell of the Da Vinci Teacher Leader Institute, at 484.664.1002, Ext. 105. Allentown School District teachers who are accepted will also receive a cash stipend. Graduate credits through Cedar Crest College and state Act 48 hours also are available.
