Showing
Through Sept. 6: Cool Moves
The Da Vinci Science Center will be moving this summer with
a dynamic special exhibit and programs celebrating motion in its practical,
powerful, and beautiful forms.
The Center's building on Allentown's Hamilton Boulevard Bypass will probably be the only thing staying put during the showing of the Cool Moves traveling exhibit - presented by Domino's Pizza, Jack Lehr Heating Cooling & Electric, RCN, and UGI Utilities - and the Liberty Mutual Summer Stage Series.
Produced by Sciencenter, Ithaca, N.Y., Cool Moves will highlight the grace, beauty, and technical marvel of every body or object that moves through Sept. 6. Cool Moves uncovers for visitors the beauty of motion that takes place around them every day. Motion also is an integral business partner for each Cool Moves Presenting Sponsor - demonstrated by the spinning of a hand-tossed Domino's Pizza, the flow of cool household made possible by Jack Lehr Heating Cooling & Electric and its Trane equipment, the rapid relay of cable signal from RCN, and UGI Utilities' delivery of natural gas to millions of homes.
With 14 hands-on experiences,
Cool Moves takes the visitor on an exploration of how motion can be characterized
in terms of translation or rotation; continuous or vibrating; and predictable
or unpredictable. The Cool Moves Activity Cart - sponsored by J&J Affordable
& Luxury Transportation - will allow children to create their own moving
sounds and artwork. The activity cart will appear on the Center's exhibit
floor during Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The
Liberty Mutual Summer Stage Series will
present public programs that will complement the Cool Moves experience.
The Liberty Mutual Summer Stage Series also will feature two Liberty Mutual
Bike Rodeos and Child ID Giveaways, a pizza tossing activity by Domino's Pizza,
an interactive program by RCN, and activities that will encourage healthy
activity and exercise. Additional details of Liberty Mutual Summer Stage Series
will be announced shortly.
Additional Cool Moves
sponsors include Adam Meyer Moving and Storage, Allstate Insurance Co., Best
Buy, and Lafayette Ambassador Bank.

The Fossil
Wall
Funded by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts
The Fossil Wall exhibit is a montage of 21 wood and metal designs created
by Rudy Ackerman, former Executive Director of the Allentown Art Museum. The
designs were inspired by images of leaves and plants that existed more than
300 million years ago.
